if there's one good thing coke can do...

it is to put together all my favorite music artists.

the first is the foreign OPEN HAPPINESS theme in the United States, which featured Cee-Lo Green, together with Patrick Stump of FOB and Brendon Urie of PATD, with Janelle Monae

the second one is the OPEN HAPPINESS local version, made by the explosive pinoy rock band Sandwich.

nothing more to say... just open happiness!

What's with Weezy

It seems that there has been a lot of talk going on about one of hip-hop's gleaming icon, Lil' Wayne.

First, there is this shift with regards to his footwear. From sporting Supras (luckily, even having one of the 29 "Clandestine" Supra Vaiders courtesy of Pete Wentz), he now grabs kicks from The Hundreds. A total switch or an expansion?

And then there were the songs. With the success of "Tha Carter III" (despite its poor album design), Mr. Carter went back to his lab to do some experimenting, and came up with rock. With an arsenal of his own instruments, as well as a lot of collaborations, most especially with Fall Out Boy, he would release "Rebirth," his rock album sometime this summer. The first video "Prom Queen" already graced YouTube and the rest of the video channels on TV and on Internet.

However, "Prom Queen" was not able to share the success of the other previous Lil' Wayne hits, so it is projected that the album's release would be pushed back. With the Weezy on his Gibson guitar, I think it would be a success, but it would take time. "Rebirth" would have to do some heavy promotional work to gain acceptance and popularity. And for the crowd? C'mon, Weezy could do riffs well. Can't we just accept that he could?

Meanwhile, I wait for "Tha Carter IV," which will hit record bars late 2009.

Any thoughts on this?

His resurrection, our resurrection

The resurrection is indeed the highlight of our faith. Because Jesus rose again, we have been given new life. We are created anew.

Let us celebrate this new life! We are a resurrection people, and it simply reminds us that in our human existence, we are always created anew, and that there is always hope.

So as we remember and celebrate Christ's resurrection, we also celebrate our humanity, our very own self that is continuously loved by God, created and re-created.

Alleluia!

the cross and the puppy

The Cardinal had a story to tell in his homily during the Veneration of the Cross, which , despite sounding quite silly at first, shows what it really means to love.

He told the story of a father giving his daughter a puppy as a birthday gift. The daughter loved the puppy so much that she cannot let go of it. One time, his father asked him.

"Do you really love the puppy?"

She replied, "Yes! I love my puppy so much!"

His father then said, "Then why don't you become a puppy yourself, that you may be able to share with your puppy what it really means to be a puppy?"

His daughter refused.

In this day, we remember Christ who, because of His great love, took the form of a man and lived with us, ultimately dying for us in order for us to live. What astounds me is the fact that Jesus did not take the form of a rich man who will be worshipped and adored by many because of his great riches. Instead, he took the lowliest of the lowly, being a poor and simple man.

Even experiencing the most shameful death that any human being of that time dreads - death on a cross.

And yet because of what He did, we were saved. We were transformed, cleansed, and renewed. The cross ceased to be a symbol of fear. It became a symbol of the greatest love that the world has experienced, the love of our Lord, so great that He gave up His life for us.

May Jesus' death and His love for us enable us to carry our crosses and love in greater, more selfless ways.

washing of the feet

It's not just about role reversal. More importantly, it is a reconstruction of what it means to serve and be served.

What Jesus showed us as He washed the feet of the disciples is a truly personal relationship between Master and Servant, Teacher and Disciple.

He showed that the true master is indeed someone who knows how to love and serve the servant, and a true servant is indeed one who serves the master with brotherly love. As he washed the feet of the disciples, he shows that He is the true master, as that which He shares His own self with them, becomes equal with them, and unites Himself with them. The disciples on the other hand, receive their Master by accepting His service with gratitude.

Another significant point needed to point here is the unifying bond that made the master and servant one with each other. It is that which truly strengthened and solidified the relationship between Jesus and His disciples, one that can never be broken apart by anything.

And this celebration of such great friendship and relationship calls us to wash the feet of others in every way possible. We are called to greatly recognize each other's personhood and love each one selflessly in various ways. The Lord does not ask us of great things at once. We can start with little things, like becoming a good friend and family member. We can be selfless, and if we do, we create relationships that not only last, but also make us connected and one with each other.

food for thought for the easter triduum

it's quite fascinating and amazing that the greatest love of all goes beyond the bounds of reason and logic. how could one give so much love, so great that he gave up his life that others may live, to many that most of the time do not even notice him or, to a greater extent, mock him in front of his face?

and now we celebrate this love. we fast not because god is dead, but because he gave up his life that we may live. we do the stations of the cross not as a road to death, but a road to new life. we venerate the cross not because it is a symbol of punishment, but that of salvation.

we do everything because we have been truly loved and saved.

have a meaningful holy week to everyone.

the wrestler, stone cold, and the joker lucha mask

Mickey Rourke's comeback was a glorious one, as he starred in one of the most magnificent and thought-provoking films of this decade.

This film helps us see what happens after all the fame and glory flew away for a person in the entertainment industry who has lost everything after the 80's. Not only it is a glimpse of the underground wrestling industry, but more importantly, it is a portrayal of a very deep passion that goes beyond fame, beyond love, beyond the borders of human abilities, and how it shaped the life of a man.

And even though this passion has brought misery and a feeling of being alone, it brought a sense of being complete, of being fulfilled.

This movie somehow tells us: may we find this deep passion that runs in our blood help us find what could really make us complete.

And speaking of wrestlers, I was able to watch Wrestlemania 25, and I was quite surprised that one of the nominees for the WWE Hall of Fame is none other than Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Yes, Stone Cold, the icon of the late 90's, the idol of the kids of the world. The one who made kids like us watch for more. We hear the broken glass. We see the ATV and the cans of beer. We see the middle finger and the best Stone Cold Stunner.

I'm sure that each boy who is turning 20 now has already heard of Steve Austin. I was a fan.

This Steve Austin is what we really call passion.

And check out Rey Mysterio's Joker Lucha Mask. Way cool.

for april first: summer has already come!

First things first. Before going for the break, it would be best to number a few things to do and be preoccupied with for this summer vacation.

-High-priority on this list would be to let the body recover and spend long hours of sleep, spend the afternoons lying in bed and thinking beautiful thoughts, and sleeping once again. Isn't it great that the body never grows tired of sleeping?

Other things would then follow.

-Catch up on TV time. Watch the upcoming US NCAA games, look forward to the "purple-and-gold-dominated" NBA playoffs (ok, I was being too biased here), as well as a few new music videos on MTV and Channel V (which also urges me to check out if 'The Hills' and '90210' would be worth watching), and also a few toons and pay-per-views in Jack TV (Wrestlemania 25 on the way...)

-and of course, work still cannot be avoided. I still have to finish the lay-out for The Ambassador, the San Jose Seminary Yearbook. Also, I cannot but avoid to append the words "community beadle" in my Yahoo! Mail signature, and also attach to my schedule the many preparations for the next school year (which includes the way we proceed with the freshman orientation and initiation of the new members of the San Jose community).

-Pre-Divinity majors do not have OJTs, but we are sure expected to participate in the endeavours and activities of our local Ordinaries. I am tasked to serve at the Manila Cathedral for the rest of the Holy Week (also the important celebrations). Also, for the last week of April, I would be immersed in a specific parish where I would join and work in their formation programs for their lay parishioners.

-housework is a must for the summer, for we do not have any househelper. I have to again do the laundry, iron clothes, clean the house, and cook for ourselves.

-and of course, go to places. This summer, I would just like to pass by a few places where I haven't gone in months. A few places here in Manila would suffice.

With things that shouldn't be missed besides those mentioned above.

-relationships, friends, classmates, and my family whom I haven't seen a long time.

-facebook frenzy.

-lots of Left4Dead, Counterstrike and NBA 2K9 (after all, gamers are still gamers)

-point-and-shooting (I'm talking about my camera)

-checking out kicks (though not buying one for the moment, because...)

-saving for a skateboard

-texting and e-mailing people

-movie marathon

-blogging. Check out my blog http://earlsrandomthings.blogspot.com, to get lots of info and stuff that could increase your knowledge.

-sorry, no beach, but I'm expecting lots of hang-outs and sleepovers this summer.

-and most importantly, the pleasure of eating good good food never goes out of the scene

So for now, delete some school-related information, and LET THE FUN BEGIN.
