american idiot musical? hmm....

from buzznet.com

"American Idiot" Musical: Billie Joe Says "It Doesn't Make A Lot Of Sense"

Is the theater for punk rock? We're about to find out. After months of work, California's Berkeley Repertory Theater is set to debut a stage musical based on Green Day 's politically charged blockbuster album, American Idiot . The show, created by the band and Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer, will run from Sept. 4 through Oct. 11.

No one is more surprised by the notion of a punk rock album being turned into a play than Green Day's own frontman Billie Joe Armstrong . "It doesn't make a lot of sense," he told the New York Times . "But that's what I love about it. When people see it, it's going to be my wildest dream."

Details on the plot are still scarce — and Billie Joe admits that the album is "not the most linear story in the world." But it does contain some memorable characters, like Jesus of Suburbia and Whatshername, so it's a good bet that the musical storyline will incorporate them somehow.
The production of an American Idiot musical isn't even close to the oddest rock/theater collaboration in recent memory. Before
Twilight took over pop culture, Elton John wrote a bunch of music for a Broadway adaption of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. Now, U2's Bono and the Edge are writing music for a musical adaptation of the Spider-Man comic book called Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark . Julie Taymor, who directed the Beatles-inspired film musical Across the Universe , is directing the Spidey production.

Green Day, of course, has long idolized the theatrics of idols like The Who, whose concept album Tommy was turned into a Broadway production. But Billie Joe seems a tad uncomfortable when asked whether his band is now surpassing the Clash, another big Green Day inspiration. He says: "I guess maybe we're a bit more fruity than the Clash."

Maybe the real question is: is punk rock ready for the theater?

I would like to ask and emphasize this last question.

I Hope That This Would Inspire Us To Walk

I think that my philosophy classmates and blockmates should take a look at this.

With all the things that I have gone through in all my philosophy courses in my third year, I just cannot pass the opportunity to describe how it was and write about it in a quite creative and significant way. I may not be able to capture everything significant, but I hope that in this work, I covered all the things that are essential: those that could lead us to the more important things that, as one Chinese philosopher says, would be best if left unsaid.

What still remained in this long and tiring journey of finding the purpose of meaning in everything life is captured by the Jesuit metaphysician Norris Clarke, as he said that truly, his philosophizing (his metaphysics in his case) is a long journey, from home and back to home. But I say that, being a young, energetic person like me, the word "journey" does not suffice. Rather, what would best suit my experience of philosophy is that it is an ADVENTURE, one endeavour that led me to other worlds, other ways of thinking, and other ways of viewing the whole with a certain limited perspective, something that might have boundaries, but nevertheless always goes past it. An adventure that is as great as our own personal quest for fulfilment and happiness, or as our favorite Role-Playing Game, full of different choices and strategies that would help us reach the end and see the beauty of having played such game after all.

This adventure started off with recognizing the "IS," which should serve as the very foundation of this adventure, that without it, everything (or most of it) would either remain to be senseless or would be not as meaningful as they are.

So we start with the fundamentals, the very purpose of this adventure. It is. This world is, and this includes me as well. This journey, after all, is set towards finding the meaning of this "is-ness," that which we share and what binds us together, not only within ourselves, but also to the One, on which we "hang on" through this "is-ness."

This should make things fairly easier to explain as we go on describing this adventure. It is inevitable that you would meet up with people, both living and dead, and engage in a fruitful conversation with them. Some we may meet, like our close friends and acquaintances in this journey, but others we may not be able to, yet we meet and encounter them through their wise words which strike our minds and heart. Whenever we read their works, it is as if these people converse with us, present what they think, and ultimately, challenge us by questioning us. They push us to either adopt what they were talking about to give a different meaning in our life, or question them, so for as to construct our own road towards meaning and intelligibility of life.

And so, in our continuous adventuring, meeting these friends, fending off enemies named "sloth" and "absurdity," fighting back with our own efforts to make sense of what we are, and earning gifts and rewards that could help us, our image of what it means to live gradually becomes clearer and clearer. We were able to understand where we came from, who we are, how we are related, and where we are headed too. These are questions that, once we encounter, we can't help but to find the answers, for we believe that when we find such, it would help us live and act more wisely, as well as treat our very own selves as treasures, more valuable than any gold or pearl that we could find. We would find out that the X in the treasure map is found within us, and we would find in ourselves the Treasure, the Infinite Plenitude.

I planned to add more to these, but I think that because most of our own adventures comprise this, and what comes out in our journey depends on how we tackle each and every step, I would not further specify. What I have done is to just uncover these questions that appear in our own adventures.

As we move a step further, we draw closer and closer to the ending, to the Omega point of this adventure. Along the way, we might fail, forget the right words to say and understand, portray a wrong and negative picture of our existence. Nevertheless, we have hidden keys to everything that would help us finish this adventure, and that is hope and love, those which would help us stand up after falling down, try again after failure, and look further at the end of the tunnel, where light would be seen, a resplendent light that is so bright that we cannot do anything but be blinded and be filled with joy because of its brightness. This Light is the same Source, from whom we came from, and he is also the end of the adventure, the Ending CGI that never finishes even until the final credits roll. It is He, the One, the Infinite, who is our Source and Goal, and we should be delighted with that, for we are coming home.

So grab your maps and tools (like science and abstractions), and continue your search that would lead you home. Never give up, and never let laziness defeat you. Always wonder at the richness of this adventure, and look at what is being manifested, of what is being presented to you, that you may be able to make more sense not only out of yourself, but also of the world which you are responsible of bringing with you back home. Learn to walk, and proceed to crossroads that would affirm and shed light and meaning on our existence.

will j-rock and way-rock (for final fantasy 7 advent children complete) mix

dug from buzznet.com

My Chemical Romance Writes Final Fantasy VII ACC Song

Legendary Japanese rocker Kyosuke Himuro, member of seminal band Boøwy, has joined forces with emo vocalist Gerard Way from the group My Chemical Romance for the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete.

Square Enix's Tetsuya Nomura is a big Boøwy fan. Back in 2005, Himuro's tune "Calling" from his 1989 album Neo Fascio found its way into the movie's score.

In what seems to be an another effort on Square Enix's part to reach out to Westerners, Way and Himuro team up for the new ending tune, "Safe and Sound". It's penned by Gerard Way, and there's a preview in the link below.

we are waiting for the results, as well as FF7:ACC

signs of an incoming zombie apocalypse... and knowing that you are addicted to left4dead

for hours, i was searching for the article on ten signs of an incoming zombie apocalypse (just to make things more interesting). however, after not having found anything, i decided to make my own.

more left4dead addiction.

TEN SIGNS OF AN IMPENDING ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE

1. rabies will become a big thing in the news, with lots of cases with similar symptoms.
2. you hear weird moaning sounds from nowhere, and you are curious enough to find out about it.
3. you hear news of an incoming rescue in a few days, when you do not really have an idea of what is going on.
4. roads and floors have large craters, like someone (or something) pulled them off.
5. some life forms begin jumping from rooftop to rooftop
6. something pink and gooey sticks in your window.
7. the malls have less and less people, as well as the hospitals (no, this is not the effect of the economic breakdown!)
8. some sick people become exaggeratedly obese and start spewing green stuff.
9. there are some eerie instances where you feel like you are the only human being in a certain place
10. and most important of all, high-powered weapons and unlimited ammo are scattered around

AND THE SIGNS THAT YOU FEEL LIKE YOU'RE REALLY REALLY ADDICTED TO LEFT4DEAD
1. like a paranoid, you stare on top of buildings for seemingly no reason at all
2. in dark, isolated places, you check out every room and make sure that there is no moving object at all.
3. you are afraid that hunters might come out of nowhere and pounce at you.
4. you search the floor for weapons and ammo.
5. you are updated of the latest biological viruses
6. painkillers are a must for you.
7. you prefer to go in groups during night time...
8. and pass by in silence.
9. you feel safe and secure in rooms with medicine boxes.
10. you are posting things like these.

LEFT4DEAD ACTION, anyone?

... and anything you can add in this list?

enjoy.

zombie frenzy part 1

something nice from cracked.com. i'm sorry i caught the left4dead fever BIGTIME.

6 Signs You're About to be Attacked by Zombies:

#6.
Your first instinct during a crisis is to go to your mall.

Imagine a horde of zombies swarming down the main street of your town. Where do you go? If the nearest military base comes to mind, you're probably OK. If you're having trouble deciding between J. Crew and Sbarro ... well, the good news is, you're going to find the rest of this article extremely informative.

That's because there are two types of people in this world: those who think of malls as grossly unsafe places to seek shelter during a zombie apocalypse, where the undead masses could hide out in clothes racks and toy bins and where glass doors serve as a flimsy barrier between them and the undead hordes outside. And then there are people like you, who were put on this earth to get attacked by zombies while helping deliver a subtle anti-consumerist commentary.

#5.
You've just said or done something that would make it ironic if zombies attacked.

Don't be fooled by their barely functioning nervous system and shambling gait, Zombies have a devastating sense of timing. And if there's one thing they appreciate more than brains, it's dramatic irony. So if you're walking through a graveyard with a woman who's scared of the undead, you should avoid putting on your most sarcastic spooky voice and saying "They're coming to get you, Barbara." For whatever reason, sarcasm sounds like a dinner bell to zombies.

She's not reacting to your devastating sarcastic/spooky voice.

Zombies are incredibly patient. You can go your whole life avoiding any zombie irony--never dressing up as a zombie on Halloween, skipping all the "dead people are dead and never coming back" parties your friends throw every Easter. No rush. Take as long as you want. Zombies aren't busy. They'll just be chilling out under a thin dusting of suspiciously loose soil. And the second you slip up and do something that would make a zombie attack the least bit ironic, like say, starring in a zombie movie, they will be on your ass with a quickness.

#4.
The hospital you just woke up in is completely empty.

If you find yourself falling into either of the above groups, you should probably avoid spending time unconscious in a hospital bed. In a zombie apocalypse, nothing's more embarrassing than walking around asking stuff like, "What the fuck happened to the world?" The people who've had to deal with this shit for weeks will just roll their eyes, and generally act like you're the stupidest son of a bitch in town not mumbling the word "Braaaaains."

That's because the deeper people get into a zombie crisis, the more everyone starts acting like total assholes. So skipping two weeks of consciousness doesn't make for the smoothest of transitions. Your new friends got to ease their way into the apocalypse, whereas you just rolled out of a warm bed, directly into a frigid pool of cannibalism and back-sass.

NOTE: This of course assumes that you survive the two weeks in your hospital bed serving as a man shaped hot plate for your brains. For whatever reason, this is generally a safe assumption.

#3.
You are doing something unorthodox in a graveyard.

Most people like to do their dancing and fighting in night clubs, and save the graveyard for more appropriate activities like being dead. But you don't play by those rules, and well, neither do zombies.

Listen, you just never know when, as you're taking a run-of-the-mill naked dance break in the middle of a graveyard, radioactive toxins will rain down and cause the people in the graves to rise up and begin shouting "Braaaains!"

#2.
You never use the word "zombie."

Let me set up a scenario for you. You're coming home from work one evening. You pull into your driveway and pop out of your car to see your now-dead friends walking up the street, with the intention to eat you. What do you call them? If you said "them" or "things," then, well, that isn't a far-fetched scenario so much as it's a glimpse of your future. Make no mistake: With the exception of the aforementioned metatextual zombie movie, nobody in a zombie movie has ever seen one. If this page is in your browser history, it's probably time to be scared.

#1.
Your girlfriend, pet, brother or parents are zombies.

You know, I really shouldn't need to explain this one.

happy zombie bashing!

i heard that kobe wore them.

apparently, the mamba wore these mambas in chicago's game last friday, took over after a 16-point slump, and managed to win the game.

next target: get back that number one spot.

interesting kicks

from them kicks.

food + great music + music magazine = great.
... plus supra skytops = awesome.

supra teamed up with spin magazine and stubb's barbeque to come up with the supra skytop South by Southwest (SXSW). here is a description from www.highsnobiety.com.

“The Skytop takes its name from the one of the best places to eat and see live music when you are in Austin, and takes its looks from their world famous sauce. To coincide with this release, we have created a special edition to only be sold at Stubb’s Bar-B-Q this Friday in Austin, Texas.

This special edition includes a pair of Stubb’s Skytops, an apron, a bottle of Stubb’s sauce, all inside a hand made wooden box. This box, as well as the apron are both branded with a 2009 SXSW seal. There will be ONLY 50 boxes for sale this Friday from 10am-11am. Each box is also hand numbered.”

now this is quite interesting. hope it reaches us in a few months (even without the apron, sauce, and box. the kicks will suffice)!

hearts and stories

i just had unusual stories and experiences for a particular day.

it's funny that there are affairs of the heart and mind that take us to places and modes of existence that we never expect. they open us to many possibilities: of telling the whole world our outrageous feelings. or, on the other hand, placing all those emotional reactions to subtlety, so subtle that you cannot but tell a few about it.

some would make ways and provide means. yes, means that would exert so much effort, but for the believer, it would be effortless, as long as there are things that drive one to do them. but then, there are those pushed back by social pressures, by the fear of rejection, by the fear that they might make the wrong move, or they have made the wrong move. who they want to know, what they want to happen, could no longer be. but these others believed that there is a spark of hope. there is, indeed.

and then there were those who cannot respond. who just cannot but say "why me?," "why now?," "why were things done that way? could they have changed?"

but then, these were left unanswered. probably, for them, it would be better to leave them unanswered and still go on with reasons that reason cannot even logically understand. love suffices.

truly, it IS! i AM! you ARE!

go figure.

father tom green, sj

yesterday, while we were on our way to the college to attend the release of the pilosopo tasyo, we have seen fr. tom, alive and well, greeting us cheerfully as if he had never been to the hospital for weeks.

this morning, he has passed away. apparently, his heart was not able to make it.

surely, we will miss his words of wisdom, his cheerful presence in our community, his morning walks (where the last time we met, we talked about the western tradition of knowing and thinking), and the many things that fr. tom was both known and not known for.

we pray for him.

watchmen

good adaptation. great original concept. 4.75 out of 5.

but the most important thing to consider in watching this movie is our idea of what it means to be good, on how do we carry the words "justice" and "order" in our way of dealing with things.

it is a movie of humility, of respect, of justice. a movie where real greatness and sacrifice is questioned. it is something for us to think about as we look at ourselves and how do we do good works and follow the order of the world.

it makes us think - what does it mean to be god? to be man? to be someone more than man and reach towards godliness? who watches over us as we watch ourselves and others?
